Rollerball Pens And The Companies That Manufacture Them
Rollerball pens are a wonderful modern invention that combine ballpoint pen engineering with water-based inks. The result is a unique writing experience that offers a smooth ink appearance with the convenience of the common ballpoint pen. Every top manufacturer of quality fine writing instruments will typically offer their pens in the three basic styles of ballpoint pen, rollerball pen and fountain pen. There are many superior rollerball pens available from the best crafters of pen styles, so that you can select the rollerball pen with the features that you like.
Montblanc offers a wide selection of rollerball ink pens for your perusal. Their Meisterstuck Diamond line uses handcrafted resins for the barrel of the roller ball pen, along with platinum plated trim and an extended cap that houses the Montblanc star. These exquisite rollerball pens can only be purchased from retail outlets and not online.
Another company that produces a fine rollerball pen with a name that might be familiar is Cartier. Known for their luxury jewelry, Cartier also makes some of the highest quality rollerball ink pens on the market today. The Cartier Trinity Collection offers a fine rollerball pen that comes in a composite natural resin body in red or white lacquer with decorative gold-plated rings.
Cross Pens bring color and function to fine rollerball pen design. Making quality affordable, Cross offers the Cross Affinity line in a roller ball pen style. The barrel of the fine rollerball pen is crafted from high-gloss crystalline resin, and comes in lustrous red, blue or black colors. It is completed with chrome trim and stylish insignia on the clip.
Parker Pens offers rollerball pens in their Premier, Sonnet, Duofold and Facet Collections. While the Sonnet line features bright lacquers finished with gold or silver trims, the Facet offers writers a sixteen-sided faceted cap and chrome-plated trim accents. The Duofold, introduced to the public in 1921, continues to offer writers a well-balanced pen that comes in Duofold check colors as well as an elegant pearl finish with black veining.
Waterman Pen Company makes the stunning Charleston line of fine writing instruments. With an Art Deco styling reminiscent of a luxurious bygone era, the Charleston features geometric forms and a screw-on cap design.
All of these pens can be refilled with brand-specific ink refill cartridges. Certain pens may also be converted to pencils and even highlighters, depending on the particular pen line. For more information about these or other pen lines that feature the rollerball mode, please visit online suppliers of fine writing instruments.

Cartier Creative Writing $38.69 From the creation of its first writing implements in 1868 to today's position as the world's second largest producer of fine writing instruments, Cartier has beautifully combined technical innovation with creative audacity. This volume features a comprehensive selection of pieces from Cartier's incredibly inventive repertoire-- pens, inkwells, mechanical pencils, calendars, stationary and other accessories-- dating from the middle of the 19th century to the present, weaving the story of Cartier's production as a "joaillier" into the broader fabric of the history of writing instruments and the famous clients who chose to use them. The historical pieces-- many of which are shown here for the first time-- are highly sought after by collectors, and even those made during the last decade are commanding record prices in the salesrooms. The Baron de Rothschild, J. P. Morgan, Mona Bismarck, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and Rudyard Kipling are among the distinguished clients who wrote with magnificent pens and pencils made of gold or platinum, incorporating diamonds, jade, sapphires, emeralds, lacquer, mother-of-pearl, or ingenious timepieces and calendars. One-of-a-kind pieces from New York, Paris and London are thoroughly documented and illustrated with photography specially commissioned for this book. The contemporary writing instruments featured here, from the famous Must to the recent Diabolo de Cartier demonstrate how the company's designers are using the company's long-standing traditions to remain at the forefront of imaginative pen and pencil design for the future. This eloquent testimony to the ingenuity and craftsmanship of Cartier's designers and craftsmen will be essential tocollectors of writing instruments and to all those interested in jewelry and the decorative arts. |

Excerpt: A fountain pen is a nib pen that, unlike its predecessor the dip pen, contains an internal reservoir of water-based liquid ink. From the reservoir, the ink is drawn through a feed to the nib and then to the paper via a combination of gravity and capillary action. As a result, the typical fountain pen requires little or no pressure to write. Filling the reservoir with ink may be done manually (via the use of an eyedropper or syringe), or via an internal "filler" mechanism which creates suction to transfer ink directly through the nib into the reservoir. Some pens employ removable reservoirs, in the form of pre-filled ink cartridges. These Parker Duofolds from the 1920s used the Lucky Curve feed system and self-filled using a "button filler." They were quite long; nearly 7 inches long when posted. The earliest historical record of a reservoir pen dates back to the 10th century. In 953, Ma'd al-Mu'izz, the caliph of Egypt, demanded a pen which would not stain his hands or clothes, and was provided with a pen which held ink in a reservoir and delivered it to the nib, and could be held upside-down without leaking, as recorded by Qadi al-Nu'man al-Tamimi (d. 974) in his Kitdb al-Majalis wa 'l-musayardt.
