Could this be the most expensive diamond jewellery in the world?
One of the largest rough diamonds in the world has been unveiled in Monte Carlo at an annual jewellery and diamond exhibition.
Measuring in at an astonishing 478 carats, this gem would certainly make the most astonishing diamond jewellery however, its current owner Laurence Graff is not in a hurry to sell.
The British jewellery expert, who is often referred to as ‘the King of Diamonds,' bought the rough diamond at an auction in Antwerp. After investing some time into having it cut the result is having produced the largest D colour round cut diamond the world has ever seen.
Known as Constellation, this diamond now measures in at an unbelievable 102.79 carats.
Independent jeweller and diamond expert, Peter Buckie told the Financial Times that this very rare diamond will probably be sold for tens of millions of US dollars.
Due to the sheer size and value of the diamond, he also claims it would probably not be used to make a ring or necklace but would more than likely be bought by " a wealthy industrialist, entrepreneur or a celebrity."
Speaking to the Financial Times, Mr Graff does not seem to be put off by the global recession when finding a buyer for the diamond.
He said: "In the summer, we focus on Monte Carlo because that is where most of the wealthy people are."
He also confirmed that whoever buys the stone will be somebody with extreme wealth. He added: "At the top end of the business, we are not dealing with the masses. We deal with royal families, or very wealthy collectors- it's almost like a world club of billionaires that buy these stones from us."
The last D flawless round diamond was also found by Mr Graff eleven years ago, measuring in at another impressive 90.97 carats.
