With the modernization in the field of medicine and drugs comes the rise of certain groups who promote natural health products. Majority of these natural medicines are extracts of plants. So why drink Green Tea when there are other teas available in the market? There are rather many claimed healthy effects of taking in Green Tea. While most are not scientifically proven, research studies all around the world supports the following claims: Green tea is used to improve mental alertness and thinking; It is also used for weight loss and to treat stomach disorders, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, bone loss (osteoporosis), and solid tumor cancers; Green tea is also used for Crohn's disease, Parkinson's disease, diseases of the heart and blood vessels, diabetes, low blood pressure, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), dental cavities (caries), kidney stones, and skin damage; It is also claimed to decrease bacteria in the mouth so others use it as a candy; While other people apply green tea bags to their skin to soothe sunburn and prevent skin cancer due to sun exposure; Green tea bags are also used to decrease puffiness under the eyes, as a compress for tired eyes or headache, and to stop gums from bleeding after a tooth is pulled.

The only negative side effect reported until now of Green Tea is that it contains caffeine which brings insomnia. However, green tea contains less caffeine than coffee.

Most people drink Green tea because of all of these. But others need not hear such claims. All they believe is the soothing feeling and the relaxing effect green tea brings them. Green teas are now readily available in the market. You wouldn't need to get your own Camellia Sinensis, plant it in your backyard, harvest them, place it in your favorite cup and brew.
