The story of Nixon watches is one that was born out of a desire to create a product which was demanded in the sports industry.

Nixon watches were founded in 1997 by Andy Laats, a keen snowboarder and mechanical engineer and also Chad DiNenna who was a surfer that worked in the general business field. With a shared passion for extreme sports, Andy and Chad combined their knowledge and skills in order to design a product that was stylish, comfortable to wear, functional and most importantly durable for skaters and surfers and also those who enjoyed a range of general sporting activities. The designs were specifically based upon the needs and wants of people in the sports industry and those that pursued them as a hobby. Taking these findings, the designers created their watches accordingly and the Nixon brand was born.

Many professional athletes love the practicality of Nixon watches and there are a range of athletes in the extreme sports field who are part of the Nixon team and thus regularly seen sporting the watches whilst competing. Bob Burnquist, a skateboarder, skydiver and adrenaline junkie is one of these sports personalities who favour Nixon as is Surf Word Champion Andy Irons. People who take part in the sports in which Nixon watches were designed for appreciate the timepieces because they were ultimately created for them and as a result of their original needs and what the industry demanded.
