If a massive load that has to be moved to the country, then there are few vehicles that can do a better job than heavy duty diesel pickups. Diesel trucks are built specially for loads of heavy work. American automakers are the only manufacturers in the market who make heavy duty pickups. The capability of these trucks has come down in these years, because of the fifth wheel RV trailer market. These 8 ton heavy duty trucks require a lot of commercial towing power. To meet the requirements, the manufacturers have engineered these trucks with thicker frame, fully turbocharged torque power and stouter suspensions to tow tons of heavy loads. As compared to previous model trucks the new models have been improved in terms of comfort and capability. These trucks can do the dirtiest jobs by providing luxurious surroundings for around six passengers.

For the year 2008, the American manufacturers­­­­ − Dodge, General motors and Ford have engineered their models with features to meet the demands. Because of the tighter standards, the stench and thick black smoke which we use to see in the previous models is now gone. The manufacturers have found a new way to power so that they can increase the torque and horsepower of these trucks. Most of the trucks generate 650 pound feet of torque and 350 horsepower.

For testing we gathered some biggest cabs and three big all wheel drive pickups that have automatic transmission. These trucks are called as mega-machines that provide excellent comfort, fuel efficiency and heavy hauling performance. We tested these trucks on our 300 mile fuel economy loop on the track. After that we attached the load to each one of the vehicle. Each vehicle was attached to a Zieman 1165 equipment trailer which comes from Zieman Trailer manufacturing in San Bernardino, Calif. We loaded all of them with John Deere 27D excavator. The total combined weight was around 9120 pounds. We moved to the steepest highway and snake like streets of Los Angeles to see how these trucks perform.
