Every fifth driver puts wrong fuel in a diesel car
It may be funny to think about what will happen if you place petrol in a diesel car or vice versa. However, what is not funny is how much damage that petrol in a diesel engine can cause, and once you see the repair bill the fact is that misfuelling will probably cease to be a laughing matter. The astonishing truth is that every fifth driver will at some point place the wrong fuel into a diesel car due to distraction or simple absentmindedness.
However, there are devices on the market that can prevent even the most distracted driver from ever facing the ramifications of misfuelling. These misfuelling prevention devices are designed to make it impossible to ever physically place the wrong fuel in your car again.
The logic behind them is simple given the fact that diesel and petrol nozzles are not the same. Thus, by creating a cap that fits on almost all vehicles that are diesel that only allows a diesel pump to be inserted, you no longer have to worry about accidently grabbing a petrol pump instead.
Keep in mind that the costs of misfuelling continue to rise if the engine is started and include the cost of towing and draining fuel, and spending a few dollars on a safety cap will be well worth it. Add in factors such as the fact that many garages will tell you that there will likely be long term damage down the road that you will need to face as a result of misfuelling, and a few dollars for a prevention device is almost a steal.

Logical Connective $86.03 In logic, a logical connective (also called a logical operator) is a symbol or word used to connect two or more sentences (of either a formal or a natural language) in a grammatically valid way, such that the compound sentence produced has a truth value dependent on the respective truth values of the original sentences. Each logical connective can be expressed as a function, called a truth function. For this reason, logical connectives are sometimes called truthfunctional connectives. The most common logical connectives are binary connectives (also called dyadic connectives) which join two sentences whose truth values can be thought of as the functions operands. Also commonly, negation is considered to be a unary connective. Logical Consequence $87.62 Logical consequence is a fundamental concept in logic. It is the relation that holds between a set of sentences (or propositions) and a sentence (proposition) when the former entails the latter. For example, Kermit is green is said to be a logical consequence of All frogs are green and Kermit is a frog, because it would be selfcontradictory to affirm the latter and deny the former. Logical consequence is the relationship between the premises and the conclusion of a valid argument. These explanations and definitions tend to be circular; the provision of a satisfactory account of logical consequence and entailment is an important topic of philosophy of logic. The truth of the above consequence depends on both the truth of the antecedents and the relationship of logical consequence between the antecedents and the consequence. The consequence might NOT be true if not all frogs were green. Logical consequences or inferences by deductive reasoning are a major aspect of epistemology that communicates to the general public hypotheses about causality of risk factors. Logical Nor $81.25 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles In boolean logic, logical nor or joint denial is a truthfunctional operator which produces a result that is the negation of logical or. That is, a sentence of the form (p NOR q) is true precisely when neither p nor q is truei.e. when both of p and q are false. In grammar, nor is a coordinating conjunction. The NOR operator is also known as Webboperation or Peirce arrow, named after Charles Sanders Peirce who demonstrated that any logical operation can be expressed in terms of logical NOR. Thus, as with its dual, the NAND operator (a.k.a. the Sheffer stroke), NOR can be used by itself, without any other logical operator, to constitute a logical formal system (making NOR functionally complete). It is also known as Quines dagger and von Neumanns chalice. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Logical Abacus $93.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A logical abacus is a mechanical digital computer. Also referred to as a logical machine, the logical abacus is analogous to the ordinary (mathematical) abacus. It is based on the principle of truth tables. It is constructed to show all the possible combinations of a set of logical terms with their negatives, and, further, the way in which these combinations are affected by the addition of attributes or other limiting words, i.e., to simplify mechanically the solution of logical problems. These instruments are all more or less elaborate developments of the logical slate, on which were written in vertical columns all the combinations of symbols or letters which could be made logically out of a definite number of terms. These were compared with any given premises, and those which were incompatible were crossed off. In the abacus the combinations are inscribed each on a single slip of wood or similar substance, which is moved by a key; incompatible combinations can thus be mechanically removed at will, in accordance with any given series of premises. Logical Extreme $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A logical extreme is a logical construct that is often useful in testing hypotheses. The use of a logical extreme is often the simplest way to disprove a hypothesis. Quite simply, a logical extreme is the statement of an extreme or even preposterous position that is nonetheless consistent with the hypothesis being tested. Thus, if the logical extreme position is obviously untrue, then the hypothesis is disproven, at least in its stated form. As an example: Let us say that you have three different locations in the physical world: point A, point B and point C. Let us say that your hypothesis is that the shortest distance between points A and C is always passes through point B (i.e. the shortest distance A > C is always equal to A>B>C). Logical Form $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The form or logical form of an argument is the representation of its sentences using the formal grammar and symbolism of a logical/formal system to display its similarity with all other arguments of the same type. It consists of stripping out all spurious grammatical features from the sentence (such as gender, and passive forms), and replacing all the expressions specific to the subject matter of the argument by schematic variables. Thus, for example, the expression all As are Bs shows the logical form which is common to the sentences all men are mortals, all cats are carnivores, all Greeks are philosophers and so on. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Logical Atomism $95.59 Logical atomism is a philosophical belief that originated in the early 20th century with the development of analytic philosophy. Its principal exponents were the British philosopher Bertrand Russell, the early work of his Austrianborn pupil and colleague Ludwig Wittgenstein, and his German counterpart Rudolf Carnap. The theory holds that the world consists of ultimate logical facts (or atoms ) that cannot be broken down any further. Having originally propounded this stance in his Tractatus Logico Philosophicus, Wittgenstein in his later Philosophical Investigations rejected it. The name for this kind of theory was coined in 1918 by Russell in response to what he called logical holism ; i.e. the belief that the world operates in such a way that no part can be known without the whole being known first. citation needed] This belief is commonly called monism, and in particular, Russell (and G.E. Moore) reacted to absolute idealism dominant then in Britain. Logical Equivalence $60.54 In logic, statements p and q are logically equivalent (shown by symbol) if they have the same logical content. Syntactically, p and q are equivalent if each can be proved from the other. Semantically, p and q are equivalent if they have the same truth value in every model. Logical equivalence is often confused with material equivalence. The former is a statement in the metalanguage, claiming something about statements p and q in the object language. But the material equivalence of p and q (often written p leftrightarrow q) is itself another statement in the object language. There is a relationship, however; p and q are syntactically equivalent if and only if p leftrightarrow q is a theorem, while p and q are semantically equivalent if and only if p leftrightarrow q is a tautology. The logical equivalence of p and q is sometimes expressed as p equiv q or p Leftrightarrow q. However, these symbols are also used for material equivalence; the proper interpretation depends on the context. Logical Properties $48 The concepts of identity, existence, predication, necessity, and truth are at the centre of philosophy and have rightly received sustained attention. Yet Colin McGinn believes that orthodox views of these topics are misguided in important ways. Philosophers and logicians have often distorted the nature of these concepts in an attempt to define them according to preconceived ideas. Logical Properties aims to respect the ordinary ways we talk and think when we employ theseconcepts, while at the same time showing that they are far more interesting and peculiar than some have supposed. There are real properties corresponding to these concepts - logical properties - that challenge naturalistic metaphysical views. These are not pseudo-properties or mere pieces of syntax. LogicalProperties is written with the minimum of formal apparatus and deals with logico-linguistic issues as well as ontological ones. The focus is on trying to get to the essence of what the concept concerned stands for, and not merely finding some established notation for providing formal paraphrases. |

Logical Pluralism $40 Logical Pluralism presents a challenge to the proponents of alternative logic, and even to classical logicians who find alternative logics interestingly mistaken. In a short book, the authors not only raise deep issues, they also provide neat thumbnail sketches of a range of logics...theirs is a challenge that must be met, and meeting it adequately is not easy. Every logician should read this book. - Stephen Read, Notre Dame Philosophical Reviews |

Being Logical $11.99 Whether regarded as a science, an art, or a skill–and it can properly be regarded as all three–logic is the basis of our ability to think, analyze, argue, and communicate. Indeed, logic goes to the very core of what we mean by human intelligence. In this concise, crisply readable book, distinguished professor D. Q. McInerny offers an indispensable guide to using logic to advantage in everyday life. Written explicitly for the layperson, McInerny’s Being Logical promises to take its place beside Strunk and White’s The Elements of Style as a classic of lucid, invaluable advice. As McInerny notes, logic is a deep, wide, and wonderfully varied field, with a bearing on every aspect of our intellectual life. A mastery of logic begins with an understanding of right reasoning–and encompasses a grasp of the close kinship between logical thought and logical expression, a knowledge of the basic terms of argument, and a familiarity with the pitfalls of illogical thinking. Accordingly, McInerny structures his book in a series of brief, penetrating chapters that build on one another to form a unified and coherent introduction to clear and effective reasoning. At the heart of the book is a brilliant consideration of argument–how an argument is founded and elaborated, how it differs from other forms of intellectual discourse, and how it critically embodies the elements of logic. McInerny teases out the subtleties and complexities of premises and conclusions, differentiates statements of fact from statements of value, and discusses the principles and uses of every major type of argument, from the syllogistic to the conditional. In addition, he provides an incisive look at illogical thinking and explains how to recognize and avoid the most common errors of logic. Elegant, pithy, and precise, Being Logical breaks logic down to its essentials through clear analysis, accessible examples, and focused insights. Whether you are a student or a teacher, a professional sharpening your career skills or an amateur devoted to the fine points of thought and expression, you are sure to find this brief guide to effecting reasoning both fascinating and illuminating. |

Logical Possibility $98.77 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A logically possible proposition is one that can be asserted without implying a logical contradiction. This is to say that a proposition is logically possible if there is some coherent way for the world to be, under which the proposition would be true. Thus, the sky is blue (and all other actually true propositions) is logically possible: there exists some logically coherent way for the world to be such that it is true, viz., the way that the world actually is. But this way for the world to be need not be the way the world actually is; it need only be logically coherent. So, for example, the false proposition the sky is green is also logically possible, so long as we are able (as we indeed seem to be) to conceive of some logically coherent world in which the sky is green. Philosophers generally consider logical possibility to be the broadest sort of subjunctive possibility in modal logic. Logical Reasoning $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Deductive reasoning, also called Deductive logic, is reasoning which constructs or evaluates deductive arguments. In logic, an argument is deductive when its conclusion is a logical consequence of the premises. Deductive arguments are valid or invalid, never true or false. A deductive argument is valid if and only if the conclusion does follow necessarily from the premises. If the conclusion is false, then at least one of the premises must be false. And if a deductive argument is not valid then it is invalid. A valid deductive argument with true premises is said to be sound; a deductive argument which is invalid or has one or more false premises or both is said to be not sound (unsound). Logical Graph $101.96 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A logical graph is a special type of diagramatic structure in any one of several systems of graphical syntax that Charles Sanders Peirce developed for logic. In his papers on qualitative logic, entitative graphs, and existential graphs, Peirce developed several versions of a graphical formalism, or a graphtheoretic formal language, designed to be interpreted for logic. In the century since Peirce initiated this line of development, a variety of formal systems have branched out from what is abstractly the same formal base of graphtheoretic structures.
