Diesel Pusher Driving As A Woman

Were you aware that the largest number of diesel pusher drivers who are on the road alone are women? Of this group, and according to the Travel Industry Association, 35% are the range from 18-35 and driving the diesel pusher or RV as a single driver.

Driving a diesel pusher gives an aura of freedom to women. Women do not have to check into hotels that are unknown or get out and explore unsafe and unfamiliar territories while in their diesel pusher.

If you are a woman traveling alone in a diesel pusher or other form of motor home or travel trailer, then pay attention to the following tips. These tips are to help you stay alert and safe so that you are smarter than the enemy.

1.    As you make plans to leave town in your diesel pusher RV or with your RV travel trailer, make sure you give your friends and family important details on your itinerary. Give them the phone numbers of the diesel pusher RV camp grounds that you will be staying at. If plans change, make sure you let them know where you will rest your head and diesel pusher each night.

2.    Make sure that you pack extra batteries, such as a cell phone chargers and batteries. This is important in case you get stuck without power or a place to charge your phone. You will need an extra battery for the phone and items such as flash lights.

3.    Plan ahead, meaning know your route before you hit the road in your recreational vehicle or motor home. Do research of RV camp grounds so that you know your Class A motor home or fifth wheel travel trailer will fit. If able, make a reservation.

4.    Try to arrive at the campsite before the sun goes down. You will want to explore the RV camp site so that you know where all the important locations and points of contact are located.

5.    If for any reason you feel unsafe when you arrive at the camp ground, then leave immediately. This is why you should plan your route ahead of time and know where optional recreational vehicle camping grounds are located.

6.    Make sure that if you chose to explore or hike that you leave details with someone on site of the RV grounds and in your RV in case of emergency. Details should include where you went, as well as the time you left. Also, write the time you expect that you should return and an emergency contact number.

7.    Keep maps on board the RV with you at all times, but do not leave them in public view. You will always want to make sure that those around you think that you know exactly where you are at all times. Never seem unsure of yourself.

8.    If you find yourself with a flat, pull over to the side of the road, and call for assistance.

9.    Do not take a ride with a stranger, and do not pick up hitch hikers.

10.    Keep water and snacks on board the RV in case you become stranded. Also, keep an emergency medical kit.

11.    If for any reason, you are rear-ended, do not stop until you are in a well-lit area. This includes flashing lights from a police officer.

12.    Listen to your gut and trust your instincts. Call for help, if necessary.
