Protect Your Clothing on The Job With Overalls

Once the day is done, your clothing is covered with dirt, grime, and maybe some oil. Often, you find yourself scrubbing out those stains to keep your clothing in good condition. If you work in any construction, industrial, or manufacturing environment, on the other hand, stains and dirt are often part of the job. Keeping your clothing in moderately good condition, then, comes from having a good covering strategy. In the winter, this is simple. Just add a heavy-duty coat and pants over your ordinary jeans and shirt. But when the weather is warm, what do you do?

Overalls are popular work wear for various construction, manufacturing, and industrial occupations. Large enough to fit over your ordinary clothing, overalls, in a sense, are a guard for all of the particles or liquids that fly around a work area. If you work around oil or chemical liquids, for example, come prepared with a garment that can handle splashes. If you work in an area with dirt or small particles flying around, have a pair of overalls to catch it. At the end of the day, you can take off the overalls and your clothing will be clean underneath.

Most manufacturers of work wear, such as Dickies and Carhartt, have overalls for varying conditions. Not all overalls are the same, and having the right protection on the job is the difference between being clean and ruining your clothing. Denim overalls provide basic protection for environments with flying particles. Cotton duck overalls, however, are made out of a stronger material. If you want a garment to last longer through various working conditions, cotton duck may be the material you need.

Cold weather is another factor to consider. Although a standard pair of denim or cotton duck overalls is ideal for most warm working conditions, being outdoors in winter requires more protection for staying comfortable on the job. Overalls, then, designed for colder climates are insulated, lined with quilted or flannel material to provide the wearer with more warmth and to keep body heat contained.

When more protection is needed, coveralls may be the garment you need. With a similar design, coveralls go over your clothing – torso, arms, and legs. Made out of duck, nylon, cotton, or denim, coveralls provide full body protection. Before you purchase overalls or coveralls for the job, however, determine which one is best for your work area and which materials will withstand the typical conditions of the environment.
