The Billabong wetsuit was developed by an avid Australian surfer named Gordon Merchant. At first he started with hand made board shorts and it is only later that the billabong wetsuit was born. He co-founded billabong with his then wife, Rena Merchant in 1973. While they could not get an immediate break into the market, they listened to their guts and stuck on to doing what they did best. This was soon rewarded. By the eighties, billabong wetsuits became very popular. They started tapping into the international market soon and were met with success. What made billabong wetsuits a success was Merchant's constant push for newer, better and more innovative designs and this is reflected in all of billabong products. Today, Billabong offers a variety of wetsuits. There is the billabong revolution wetsuits which are designed with super-stretch neoprene, with seam designs and a drymax entry system meant to give you maximum freedom of movement while on the surf board. The billabong SGX series have been designed with durability and comfort in mind. Its unique rubber cell structure makes it very lightweight. Then there is the billabong SG5 series designed to ensure that you can hit the coldest waves with the additional installation of Solar Mesh 5 back and chest panels.

The Body Glove wetsuits were created by twin brothers Bill and Bob Meistrell, based out of Redondo Beach, California. The two brothers' journey with Body Glove wetsuits had humble beginnings. In 1944, the two teenagers moved to California and that is when they developed a major interest in surfing. Their efforts to develop a well-insulated wetsuit culminated into the first batch of Body Glove wetsuits (though, at the time they were not named so) in 1953. Encouraged by this they set up shop in one of California's sports shops. Their success started showing when the brothers became the sole owners of Body Glove wetsuits in 1958. The range of wetsuits on offer by Body Glove includes the Body Glove Vapor series. This one is specifically meant for overcoming the discomfort of cold water, with the help of its water repellent neoprene. The Body Glove Slant Zip serried provides for amazing flexibility with its slant-zip entry instead of the usual spine zip. The Body Glove Magnum series are meant for those who want to surf the waves with maximum flexibility. Its use of very fine rubber ensures that the surfer can stretch as much as he wants.
