How to Find the Perfect Winter Jacket

More often than not, we will have some type of winter jacket in our closet from the previous year.  However, as fashions change each season, it is not uncommon for many people to go out and buy a new coat for the upcoming cooler weather.  If this is indeed your situation and you are starting the elusive hunt for the best possible outerwear for when it gets chilly, read on to discover what you need to know to find the perfect winter jacket.

Where and When

As we all know, coats and jackets are not the cheapest of garments to purchase.  Therefore, it is important to think about where you will be wearing this piece of clothing the most.  If it is to the office, then you will need to make sure that it is appropriate for that situation.  If you are going to be outdoors a lot in your work, you'll want to make sure that it is shower proof, just in case you get stuck out in the elements.  If you need an all-rounder jacket for most situations, then be sure to look for a style that is versatile; something with a detachable hood can always dress up or dress down the garment.

Fabrics

The options when it comes to choosing what a jacket can be made out of and the colour and style are almost endless.  They all offer different levels of warmth and wind protection, so it is a good idea to understand this when purchasing a new jacket:

• Wool is luxurious and can provide a high level of warmth in situations where there is minimal wind.
• Polyester blend outer shells will be able to block the wind and be potentially shower proof, but will only be very warm if there is an additional lining with filling or fleece.
• Micro fleece is great for blocking out some wind and does keep its wearers quite warm.  This fabric is not waterproof.
